Speed Painting #12

This one is of an abandoned auto plant. Apparently, I love structures with columns, cuz my reversal was like this too. Not that I'm any good at it...

Here's the image:

Here's the painting:

I delegated my time between the 4 quadrants this time, so the whole thing looks more or less the same in terms of progress, although I still tried to render when I shouldn't have... And after working the four quadrants and I zoomed out, the columns didn't line up! But they were close enough that I could quickly fix it in about 5 minutes. But over all, I like this one better than the butterfly one. Yay. Hopefully the next one will be better still! :)

Speed Painting #11

Today, my friend is here, not to hang out, but to be my drill sergeant. We're doing speed paintings all day today. My first one is of a Glass Wing Butterfly. Here's the photo:

Here's the painting:

It's unfinished. I'm using my friend's method of blocking it in quickly on a small canvas, then enlarging it and focusing on the four quadrants separately, and then bringing it all together in the end. Except I didn't get to the right half.... It's not done at all, but now I know I have to delegate my time and work faster. I still got caught up in details much too soon. The next one will be better!

Phoenix Wright Anatomy Book

For my figure drawing class, our teacher had us study the anatomy of the human figure. We were to select a theme for the anatomy books we were supposed to make. At first, I wanted it to be fantasy, but I put off the book for too long, and drawing my own fantasy characters (completely with armor and environment) would have taken too long.

So instead of making my own characters, I decided to take previously made characters and just draw on top of them. My final theme was Phoenix Wright. I had some Apollo Justice in there too, but I figured he could fit under the Phoenix Wright theme just as well.

Skull and muscles

Pectoralis major (Apollo Justice)

Lower torso front (Dick Gumshoe)

Back (Phoenix Wright)

Upper arm, back view (Franziska von Karma)

Arm, inside view (Klavier Gavin)

Upper and lower leg, front view (Mia Fey)

I didn't get to cover the whole body. I wanted to do hands and feet, neck, the back view of the leg, and the back view of the lower torso.

Well, I got an A, and my teacher kept my book to show as an example for future semesters. I wish I had something better though. This isn't exactly something I would consider impressive enough to be kept as an example.... I mean, it looks nice, but it could have been much better.

I guess it's not too bad for two days of work though, so I shouldn't complain.

Yep. Anatomy!

Secret Santa!

So last year, two of my friends from school organized a Secret Santa Gift Exchange in which our gifts are all drawings for each other. Each person posts a request of what they want, and the person assigned to be their secret santa will draw it for them and post the picture in the group for Christmas.

This year, our theme was "favorite song." I posted 4 of my favorite songs, and my secret santa chose to base his piece off of OK Go's "You're so Damn Hot." This is the piece I received. Thank you!!

The person I was assigned to also posted four songs. Only one of them revealed a clear image to me, and that song was "Disposable Heroes" by Metallica. This is the image I submitted.

Yup.

Happy Holidays, everyone!

I Like Colorful Things!

This is a design I did a little more than a year ago. I outlined a design in pencil, then I colored it with colored pencil, and then I used sharpie to make the outline bolder. This, however, is not the original thing. I spent the last two days putting the design into Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. I'm finally done with it :)

Speed Painting #8

Soooo, being the awful, awful student I am, I hadn't done a speed painting in forever. Here's number 8 from Goro Fujita's sample photos.

Nerts... They always look worse to me when I upload them onto here. I'm not sure how long this took me because I stopped to take a phone call and a nap in the middle of it. It definitely took at least 2 hours though... This one was funky because the perspective on the building in the photo itself was wonky, but it was still fun. I wanted so badly to photoshop the picture and fix the perspective on the drawing.

Ugh... I'm such a slacker. I loathe myself.... I resolve to do more speed paintings before I get my wisdom teeth pulled this Friday.

The Biggest Drawing I've Done. Ever.

It's been a while since I posted.... I forgot about this blog. I have so many blogs to update, and I don't update the other ones very often, so I don't update this one as much even though this one actually matters.... Somewhat....

Anyway, this is the latest thing I had been working on. It's for my church's Vacation Bible School, which is essentially a summer camp for kids 6th grade and younger, but on top of all the summer camp things, they also learn about the bible. The theme this year is "The Big Apple," like New York. My job was just to draw a subway platform that will go on the wall where the stairs are in my church, and I had to make it look like the kids could just step into this picture and board the subway. The dimensions are 7 feet and 10 inches by 5 feet. The coloring will be done later by some other people on staff because I don't have the time to color it myself.

I have to admit, although I'm not too happy with the way it turned out, it was still pretty fun. Major props go to my friend Anh Nguyen for working on this with me for hours. Thanks also go to Patrick Khachi and Ryan Ramirez for their help as well. And thanks to all three of them for encouraging me when I wanted to burn it because I couldn't stop thinking about how much I hated it. All in all, I'm glad it's finished. It really doesn't look half bad. I guess I had just been staring at it for too long.
